What starts as a series of secretive biological experiments has become a catastrophic event as Borneo Island is crippled by a zombie-like epidemic in the year 1999. Dr George brought the virus from the Comoros Island and used the local indigenous people as experimental subjects, until a breakout from his facility. Meanwhile, a group of teenagers led by Miss Ayu, who have survived the experiments, run into the jungle to take refuge. But their arrival is not welcome as there are already cases of zombies attacking the local inhabitants. Miss Ayu and her charges are suspected as carriers of the virus, and confined while the chief investigates the matter further. When the zombies horde eventually attacks, a young Dayak warrior named ‘Gadang’ leads everyone to fight back and defend their land.
This is the first horror feature in the Dayak language ever produced in Malaysia.
Director Statement
The Dayak people have lived on the Borneo island of Sarawak for thousands of years, but this is our first international feature film festival submission. This film is produced and written by indigenous film producer Madam Misha Minut, the first Dayak lady feature film producer from our country. We also hired many indigenous people for our actors and crews, and travelled about 200km from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, then 20km into the deep forest to begin our production. All our indigenous actors are mostly first timers and volunteers, helping the production for this movie with unconditional love and working fir little salary.
This is the first ever Borneo feature horror film in Dayak language ever produced in Malaysia. The uniqueness of this movie is, it was all shot in the Borneo rainforest, without any green screen or CGI. All props are genuine and made by the Dayak people. We had so many challenges during shooting. We had to cross the river, transport our equipment using 4WD, facing poisonous snake and insects, shoot in bad weather. I hope the international film community can lend us support and recognize our hard work, in order for us to continue our journey as film makers in Borneo.
